Young Cyclist in Critical Condition After Ajax Collision
A 13-year-old cyclist was involved in a serious accident in Ajax on November 7, 2024. The incident occurred at approximately 7:35 a.m. near Rossland Road West and Stevensgate Drive. According to the Durham Region Police Service, the cyclist was struck by a southbound black Hyundai Sante Fe while attempting to cross at a marked crosswalk.
Emergency services responded to the scene, where they found the cyclist pinned under the vehicle. The cyclist was extricated and treated for extensive injuries before being air-lifted to a trauma center in Toronto. Her condition is reported as life-threatening.
The driver of the vehicle remained at the scene and was uninjured. The Durham Region Police Service's Traffic Services Branch and Collision Investigation Unit conducted an investigation, resulting in the closure of the roadway for several hours to collect evidence.
