Woman Dies in Multi-Vehicle Collision in Oshawa

A woman died in a multi-vehicle collision in Oshawa on August 10, 2024. The incident occurred around 12:15 p.m. on Ritson Road South near Bloor Street. A black Mercedes sedan driven by a 40-year-old man from Toronto was traveling at high speed and struck a white Nissan driven by a 41-year-old woman from Oshawa. The impact caused the Nissan to hit a Chevy Orlando, which caught fire, and then a Honda and a Dodge Caravan, which also caught fire. Several other vehicles were involved.

The Mercedes continued southbound, crossing northbound lanes and hitting a chip truck, causing its awning to collapse on a man waiting for food. The Mercedes then crashed into a light pole. The woman in the Nissan was pronounced dead at the scene. Nine others were taken to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The Durham Regional Police Service's Collision Investigation Unit is investigating. The road was closed for several hours for evidence collection. Police are seeking information from the driver of a black Chrysler 300 involved in an initial collision with the Mercedes. No charges have been laid yet. The investigation is ongoing.
