Whitby Pedestrian Struck by Vehicle; Driver Charged

On Saturday, September 7, 2024, at approximately 6:20 a.m., a female pedestrian was struck by a silver Jaguar sedan at Consumer Drive and Paisley Court in Whitby. The vehicle failed to remain at the scene. The pedestrian sustained serious life-threatening injuries and was transported to a trauma center in Toronto.

On September 9, 2024, investigators from the Collision Investigation Unit (CIU) located the Jaguar at a residence in Whitby. A warrant was issued, and the vehicle was seized, leading to the identification of the driver.

On September 11, 2024, the suspect driver, Courtney Lawrence Ritchie, age 40, was located by CIU investigators at a residence in Whitby and taken into custody without incident. Ritchie faces multiple charges, including:

  • Dangerous Operation of a Conveyance Causing Bodily Harm
  • Fail to Remain at the Scene of an Accident Causing Bodily Harm
  • Drive While Disqualified (Criminal Code) x3
  • Drive While Under Suspension x3
  • Operate Motor Vehicle Without Insurance
  • Operate Unsafe Vehicle.
