Whitby Man Arrested After Shotgun Threats in Oshawa
A 64-year-old man from Whitby was arrested following an incident involving threats made with a shotgun in Oshawa. The Durham Region Police Service reported that the event took place on December 17, 2024, at approximately 12:50 p.m. Officers responded to a call about an armed individual near Thornton Road North and Winchester Road West.
The suspect allegedly threatened three individuals who were present to enforce an eviction. The victims left the scene and alerted the police. Upon arrival, officers found the suspect barricaded inside his home. A perimeter was established, and nearby roads were closed as negotiations took place.
After negotiations, the suspect surrendered without incident and was taken into custody. A search of the residence resulted in the seizure of a shotgun, a rifle, and ammunition. The victims were unharmed during the incident.
The suspect faces several charges, including nine counts of possessing a firearm without a license, two counts of careless use of a firearm, two counts of possession of a firearm with ammunition, two counts of possession of a prohibited device, uttering threats, and assault with a weapon. He was held for a bail hearing.
