Whitby Arrest: Two Charged with Firearms and Drug Offenses

Two individuals from Toronto were arrested following a police chase in Whitby, resulting in the confiscation of a firearm and various drugs. According to Durham Regional Police Service, the incident occurred on April 4, 2025, when officers attempted to stop a vehicle for a routine check near Paisley Court and Consumers Drive. The vehicle accelerated, colliding with a police cruiser before the suspects attempted to evade law enforcement on foot.

The suspects, identified as Shurron Simon, 18, and Kaivon McKenzie, 24, face a series of charges related to firearms and narcotics. Simon is accused of possession of a loaded prohibited firearm, possessing a weapon dangerous to the public peace, and trafficking narcotics including morphine. McKenzie is charged with unauthorized possession of a firearm and possession of cocaine intended for trafficking, among other offenses.

Recovered items include a loaded firearm, an overcapacity magazine, ammunition, along with drugs and Canadian currency. A third individual involved in the incident remains at large, and police have provided a description of the suspect, requesting public assistance in their search.

The police service continues to investigate and urges anyone with further information to contact authorities.

All charges presented are yet to be resolved in court as the individuals prepare for their bail hearings.
