Tyrone Community Voices Concerns Over Proposed Cellular Tower

On March 3, 2025, the Clarington General Government Committee discussed a plan to install a cellular tower at the Tyrone Community Centre. This installation aims to enhance cellular service in the area, as outlined in Report CAO-005-25.

Members of the Tyrone community have expressed substantial opposition to this proposal. At the meeting, spokesperson Lindsay Freeburn emphasized that more than 96% of villagers involved in discussions have signed a petition against the tower's current planned location.

Key concerns include the impact on community sports and event spaces, particularly as the tower would occupy the only outdoor area available for such activities. Safety and health implications have also been cited, with residents worried about both traffic inconveniences from reduced parking space and potential health risks.

The General Government Committee acknowledged these community concerns and mentioned that they would consider this feedback in ongoing deliberations. Currently, no official decision has been made regarding any changes to the project site or the continuation of the proposal as planned.
