Two Arrested After Multiple Stabbings in Durham Region

Two males have been arrested following multiple violent stabbings in Durham Region. The incidents occurred between June 16 and June 24, 2024, in Oshawa and Courtice. The suspects and victims are known to each other, and police have stated that all stabbings were isolated incidents with no concerns for public safety.

On June 16, 2024, at approximately 2:25 a.m., a male suspect stabbed another male multiple times near Simcoe Street South and Bloor Street East in Oshawa. The victim was transported to a local hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries.

On June 17, 2024, at around 5:00 p.m., another stabbing occurred near Simcoe Street South and Maple Street in Oshawa. The victim was also taken to a local hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries.

On June 22, 2024, at approximately 4:25 a.m., a male suspect stabbed another male near Cedar Street and Simcoe Street South in Oshawa. The victim was transported to a Toronto trauma centre with serious but non-life-threatening injuries.

On June 24, 2024, at around 9:15 p.m., two male suspects stabbed another male near Old Varcoe Road and Varcoe Road in Courtice. The victim was taken to a Toronto trauma centre with serious but non-life-threatening injuries.

The first suspect was arrested on August 2, 2024, and the second suspect was arrested on August 13, 2024. Both were taken into custody without incident.

Marlon Fernando Jones, age 47 from Oshawa, faces multiple charges including three counts of aggravated assault, two counts of possessing a weapon dangerous to the public, robbery with violence, three counts of assault with a weapon, carrying a concealed weapon, and two counts of possessing a Schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking.

Mehki Steven Hyman, age 24 from Whitby, is charged with aggravated assault, possessing a weapon dangerous to the public, carrying a concealed weapon, assault with a weapon, and two counts of possessing a Schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking.
