Two Accused in Whitby Firearm Incident

In Whitby, two individuals have been charged following a firearm incident that occurred early on March 18, 2025. As reported by the Durham Region Police Service, officers were dispatched to Applewood Crescent and Applewood Avenue at about 2:50 a.m. in response to a call about an armed person. It was alleged that the suspects pointed a firearm at victims within a residence.

After the victims left the residence, they were followed by the suspects in a vehicle. Police subsequently located this vehicle and arrested the occupants. A search revealed a replica handgun and various components of 3D-printed firearms.

Subsequent investigations led to the execution of search warrants at residences in Whitby and Scarborough. These operations resulted in the seizure of additional 3D-printed firearm frames, replica firearms, magazines, a 3D printer, and a computer.

Hamzah PATEL, a 23-year-old from Scarborough, was charged with multiple offenses, including three counts of Use/Handle/Store Firearm Carelessly and three counts of Possess Weapon - Dangerous to Public Peace. A 17-year-old male from Whitby was charged with Pointing a Firearm, Robbery Using a Restricted/Prohibited Firearm, and Possess Weapon - Dangerous to Public Peace.

Both individuals are being held pending a bail hearing.
