Traffic Stop Leads to Firearm and Drug Seizure in Whitby
On Wednesday, August 7, 2024, at approximately 11:30 p.m., members of the Central West Division conducted a traffic stop on a suspicious vehicle in the area of Dundas Street West and Halls Road North in Whitby.
During the stop, officers detected a strong smell of cannabis coming from the vehicle, prompting a search. The search resulted in the discovery of a loaded handgun with a prohibited extended magazine under the driver's seat and a large quantity of cannabis in the rear of the vehicle.
The driver, identified as Lennox Anthony Allen, age 41, from Clarington, was taken into custody without incident. Allen faces several charges, including:
- Possession of a Loaded Restricted/Prohibited Firearm
- Possession of a Restricted/Prohibited Firearm without a License
- Occupying a Motor Vehicle with a Firearm
- Possession of a Prohibited/Restricted Device
- Possession of Illicit Cannabis
- Driving a Vehicle with Cannabis Readily Available
Allen was held for a bail hearing.
