Traffic Stop in Pickering Leads to Firearm and Ammunition Seizure

A traffic stop in Pickering resulted in the seizure of a loaded firearm and prohibited ammunition.

On August 2, 2024, at approximately 1:35 a.m., a member of the Durham Regional Police Service (DRPS) RIDE team conducted a traffic stop in the area of Dillingham Road and Brock Road. During the stop, it was discovered that the driver was operating a vehicle while suspended, necessitating the impounding of the vehicle.

Upon searching the vehicle, officers found a loaded handgun concealed near the steering column and an extended magazine containing prohibited ammunition in the rear of the vehicle. The driver was taken into custody without incident.

Makaile Richards, a 22-year-old resident of Brampton, faces multiple charges, including: - Possession of a Loaded Restricted/Prohibited Firearm - Occupying a Motor Vehicle with a Firearm - Possession of a Restricted/Prohibited Firearm Without a License - Possession of Prohibited Ammunition - Driving While Under Suspension - Two counts of Failing to Comply with a Release Order

Richards has been held for a bail hearing.
