Traffic Improvement Project on Gibb Street and Olive Avenue
In response to increasing traffic in southern Oshawa, the Region of Durham has completed a Class Environmental Assessment for improvements on Gibb Street and Olive Avenue. This project will span from Stevenson Road to Ritson Road, designated as Regional Road 59 and Regional Road 16, respectively.
The Environmental Study Report identified the preferred alternative as:
- Widening Gibb Street from Stevenson Road to Simcoe Street to four lanes.
- Constructing a new four-lane connection from Simcoe Street to Ritson Road.
- Widening Olive Avenue between Ritson Road and Drew Street.
- Adding a three-metre wide multi-use path on the south side of Gibb Street between Stevenson Road and the Michael Starr Trail.
To prepare for future construction, the Region has been acquiring properties along the Gibb and Olive corridor as they become available.
