Traffic Enforcement Blitz Conducted Around Schools in Durham Region

The Durham Regional Police Service (DRPS) conducted its annual traffic safety blitz around schools in Durham Region from September 3 to 6, 2024. This initiative aimed to enhance safety as students returned to school after the summer holidays.

During the blitz, the DRPS Traffic Services Branch, along with officers from various divisions, implemented a zero-tolerance traffic enforcement campaign focused on school and community safety zones. The campaign resulted in the issuance of over 1,600 traffic tickets, which included:

  • 757 tickets for speeding
  • 242 tickets for stop sign violations
  • 4 tickets for cell phone violations
  • 31 tickets for seatbelt violations
  • 2 tickets for stunt driving
  • 13 tickets for driving while under suspension
  • 4 vehicles impounded

The enforcement campaign was designed to ensure high visibility of officers and proactive enforcement in school zones during the critical first week of the school year. The DRPS acknowledged the support from local school officials and the public for this traffic initiative.
