Suspect Arrested in Oshawa Sexual Assault Case
Durham Regional Police Service has announced the arrest of a suspect in connection with a violent sexual assault that occurred in Oshawa. The incident took place on January 8, 2025, at an apartment complex near St. Lawrence Street and Simcoe Street South.
The suspect, Evan Sweet, 28, who has no fixed address, was reportedly armed with a knife during the assault on a female victim in the building's lobby. Sweet is facing multiple charges, including robbery, assault causing bodily harm, two counts of sexual assault, and forcible confinement.
The arrest was made by the Peterborough Police Service, and Sweet has since been transferred to the custody of the Durham Regional Police Service. He is being held for a bail hearing.
The police continue to investigate the case and are appealing to the public for any additional information that could assist in the investigation.
