Steven Cooke Resigns as Chair of Clarington Library Board

Steven Cooke has resigned as the Chair of the Clarington Public Library Board, effective November 26, 2024. Cooke had served in this role since 2018 and was instrumental in the merger that created the Clarington Library, Museums & Archives (CLMA). During his tenure, he also guided the organization through the COVID-19 pandemic and contributed to the development of a new strategic plan.

Tenzin Shomar, the current Vice-Chair, will serve as Acting Chair until the next Board meeting scheduled for November 28, 2024, when new officers will be elected. The resignation leaves a vacancy on the Library Board, which is appointed by the Municipal Council. Interested candidates can find more information on the Clarington website.

Mayor Adrian Foster and CEO Monika Machacek have both acknowledged Cooke's contributions to the community and the CLMA. Cooke expressed gratitude for the support from board members, staff, and the community during his time as Chair.
