Safety Measures for Ganaraska Forest Users During Logging
The Ganaraska Region Conservation Authority (GRCA) has issued safety reminders for users of the Ganaraska Forest during ongoing logging operations. Forest users are advised to exercise caution and yield the right-of-way to logging equipment. The GRCA has highlighted the importance of avoiding parking lots and routes that may conflict with logging activities.
Some forest roads will remain open to facilitate the movement of logging equipment, which will be marked with yellow caution tape. Recreational users are advised to reduce speeds to 20 km/h and give logging equipment ample space, particularly in log staging areas.
The GRCA has flagged recreational trails with pink tape to minimize damage during the snowy months. These operations aim to support the growth of native tree species such as Red Oak, White Pine, and Sugar Maple, in line with the Forest Management Plan.
Logging operations will continue in the West Forest until February 28, 2025. During this period, all recreational trails within logging areas will be closed, and hunting in these areas is prohibited. For more information, users can refer to the Ganaraska Forest Trails Map, which is updated regularly.
