Safety Concerns and Proposed Solutions for Jury Lands Ditching
During the General Government Committee meeting on November 8, 2021, Bernice Norton, ACO Clarington Branch President, expressed concerns regarding the safety of residents walking along the trails adjacent to the ditch along the west side of Lambs Road. She noted that the area has been busy with vehicular traffic, leading to incidents where residents were nearly hit. Norton highlighted that the summer months see increased activity and proposed that ditching and the creation of a berm with boulders would help reduce vehicular traffic in the area.
Marilyn Morawetz, from the Jury Lands Foundation Board, submitted correspondence supporting the resolution to address these safety concerns. The resolution proposed that the ditch within the municipal road allowance along Lambs Road be cleared of debris and that a berm be constructed using materials from the ditch to deter vehicular and All-Terrain Vehicle access, which has been causing damage and encouraging trespassing. Clarington Council voted in favor of prioritizing the clearance of the ditch and referring the costs for the berm and boulders to the 2022 budget.
