Rising Measles Cases Reported by Canadian Public Health Agency

The Public Health Agency of Canada has reported an increase in the number of measles cases both globally and within Canada. As of March 6, 2025, 227 cases have been documented across the country. This uptick follows a wider global increase observed in 2024 compared to the previous year.

In Canada, the cases have been largely reported in the provinces of New Brunswick, Ontario, Québec, and Manitoba, coinciding with outbreaks in these regions. Most of the individuals affected are unvaccinated or under-vaccinated children.

Of the recorded cases, many have necessitated hospitalization, as highlighted by health officials. The report from the Public Health Agency of Canada stresses vigilance and the clear health risks related to the measles virus, but provides no new recommendations.
