RIDE Checkpoints During St. Patrick’s Day Lead to Seven Arrests in Durham

From March 15 to the early hours of March 18, 2025, the Durham Region Police Service (DRPS) conducted RIDE initiatives targeting impaired driving associated with St. Patrick’s Day celebrations. These initiatives unfolded across the Durham Region, including Clarington.

During this period, the police reported seven arrests for impaired driving. The RIDE program involves setting up checkpoints to evaluate drivers' sobriety and deter impaired driving.

The RIDE initiatives are a routine part of DRPS operations aimed at maintaining road safety, especially during occasions that may involve increased alcohol consumption. The statistics and outcomes of these checkpoints were provided by DRPS in their recent update.

Police continue to advise drivers on the importance of being responsible when consuming alcohol, to prevent impaired driving incidents.
