Renovations Planned for Veterans' Square in Bowmanville

The Municipality of Clarington has announced plans to renovate Veterans' Square located at the Municipal Administrative Centre, 40 Temperance Street, Bowmanville. The project will include the installation of five new flag poles, raised gardens, accessible seating, paved pathways, a service animal relief area, and mobility device charging stations.

Construction is scheduled to begin the week of May 6, 2024, and is expected to be completed in time for the Remembrance Day Service on November 11. Temporary fencing will be erected around the site for the duration of the project to ensure community safety. The main entrance on Temperance Street and the accessible Church Street entrance will remain open during regular business hours. Local businesses along Temperance Street will also remain open and accessible.

A section of sidewalk and on-street metered parking on the west side of Temperance Street will be blocked off, while parking spaces on the east side of the street will remain open. Residents and businesses in the area may experience brief periods of noise between 7 a.m. and 5 p.m.

The total cost for the project is $1,359,672.85, which includes construction costs and other related expenses such as design, inspection, testing, contract administration, and contingencies.
