RCMP to Hold Online Horse Auction Starting September 23, 2024

The Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) will hold its annual horse auction through the Government of Canada’s online auction platform, GCSurplus. The auction starts on September 23, 2024, and will last for 10 days. Five young horses from the RCMP’s breeding program, including three yearlings and two weanlings, will be available for bidding. The starting bid for each horse is set at $5,000.

The RCMP horse breeding program, which has been in operation for over 80 years, is known for producing Hanoverian horses. These horses are used in the RCMP’s Musical Ride and other public functions such as parades and Royal Family escorts. Horses that do not join the Musical Ride team are auctioned to support the breeding program. Each horse in the auction will have a dedicated page on GCSurplus with a photograph, video, and detailed information about its characteristics and skills.

Interested buyers must register on GCSurplus to participate in the auction. Registered users can also sign up for email notifications, bid notifications, newsletters, and special notices related to the auction.
