Provincial Funding Secured for Hetherington Drive Stormwater Improvements

Clarington has received funding from the Province of Ontario for the Hetherington Drive Stormwater Outlet Improvement project. The province will cover 73 percent of the eligible project costs, with a maximum allocation of $509,118.

The Hetherington Drive Stormwater Outlet in Bowmanville was originally constructed in 1972. The planned improvements, expected to commence in late 2025, aim to enhance water quality in the Bowmanville Creek. Key upgrades include:

• Installation of an oil grit separator to filter pollutants such as oil and debris.
• Enhancement of the existing outlet swale to slow rainwater flow, optimize filtration, and reduce pollutants before stormwater enters the creek.
