Premier Ford Calls for Federal Action on Border and Trade Issues
Premier Doug Ford has called on the federal government to adopt a more proactive stance regarding border security and trade issues. In a recent statement, Ford highlighted several areas where he believes federal action is necessary. These include matching U.S. tariffs on China, banning Chinese software in vehicles, delaying the digital services tax, and fulfilling NATO defense spending commitments. Ford also expressed concerns about illegal border crossings and the transport of illicit drugs, urging for increased funding and information sharing with federal agencies like the RCMP and Canada Border Services Agency. He emphasized the need for Health Canada to share data on drug manufacturing locations for better tracking. Ford stated Ontario's readiness to assist but stressed the need for federal cooperation. Additionally, he mentioned Ontario's efforts to engage with U.S. lawmakers to strengthen economic ties as the U.S. reduces dependence on China.
