Potential Canada Post Strike May Affect Durham Region Services

The Regional Municipality of Durham has announced that a potential labour disruption at Canada Post may impact mail services. A 72-hour strike notice was issued, which could take effect on November 15, 2024, if no agreement is reached. This disruption would affect all incoming and outgoing mail, including large distribution mailings such as notices and bills.

Residents can access and pay water and sanitary bills through Durham Region’s web-based portal or at financial institutions. Payments can also be made by cheque at designated municipal office drop boxes in Ajax, Brock, Clarington, Oshawa, Pickering, Scugog, Uxbridge, and Whitby.

Ontario Works clients who receive payments by mail will need to pick up their December cheques at local offices starting November 28, 2024. Direct deposit and Reloadable Payment Card recipients will not be affected. Clients must report income changes to their caseworker and provide identification for cheque pickup.

Tenants of the Durham Region Local Housing Corporation may experience delays in mailing information required for rent calculations. Alternative document submission is available in person at Regional Headquarters or local housing sites.

Fines under the Provincial Offences Act can be paid online, by phone, or in person at Regional Headquarters or any POA court office in Ontario. Durham Region Transit customers can submit applications for Specialized Services at designated locations.

Residents are encouraged to use online payment options and contact Durham Health Connection Line for inquiries about health-related mailings. For further information, residents can call 311 or use the myDurham 311 Customer Portal.
