Police Search for Suspect in Oshawa Assault
The Durham Region Police Service is seeking public assistance in locating a suspect involved in a violent sexual assault in Oshawa. The incident occurred on January 8, 2025, around 11:05 p.m. in the lobby of an apartment complex near St. Lawrence Street and Simcoe Street South. The suspect, reportedly armed with a knife, assaulted a female victim before both individuals left the scene prior to police arrival.
The victim was later found nearby with serious but non-life-threatening injuries. Police have identified the suspect as Evan Derek Sweet, a 28-year-old white male with a heavy build and blonde/orange hair. Sweet is wanted for charges including robbery, sexual assault, and assault causing bodily harm.
Authorities advise the public not to approach Sweet if seen, but to contact 911 immediately.
