Planned Roadway Improvements on King Street East in Bowmanville

The Municipality of Clarington is set to undertake roadway improvements on King Street East from Frank Street to Mearns Avenue in Bowmanville. The scope of work includes local catch basin, maintenance hole, concrete curb, and sidewalk repairs. Additionally, asphalt grinding and surface re-paving will be conducted. The project will also involve line painting and signage installation, which will reallocate the current four-lane section into a consistent two-lane road with buffered cycling lanes and a continuous centre left turn lane. Accessibility upgrades will be made at several intersections, including King Street East at St. George Street, Simpson Avenue, Bowmanville Mall Entrance, and Mearns Avenue. These upgrades will feature concrete curb and sidewalk ramping, enhanced crosswalks, tactile plates, and pedestrian signal improvements. The improvements aim to enhance roadway conditions, lower vehicle speeds, and improve pedestrian safety and accessibility, aligning with the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA). The construction is expected to begin in late summer 2024 and will last approximately 4-6 weeks, during which traffic may experience delays and lane reductions will be in effect.
