Pickering Man Arrested at Toronto Airport on Assault and Harassment Charges
A 43-year-old male from Pickering was arrested at Toronto's Lester B. Pearson International Airport on October 8, 2024. The arrest was executed by members of the West Division of the Durham Regional Police Service (DRPS) in collaboration with the Canada Border Services Agency. The suspect is facing charges of four counts of assault and criminal harassment. These charges stem from allegations of sending over 200 text messages to a victim over a two-day period and a series of assaults reported by the victim during their relationship.
The arrest was initiated by the DRPS Intimate Partner Violence Unit, which had previously sought a warrant for the suspect's arrest. The suspect was held for a bail hearing following his arrest. The name of the suspect is being withheld to protect the identity of the victim.
The DRPS emphasizes the importance of recognizing signs of intimate partner violence, which can include physical harm, emotional abuse, manipulation, and isolation from friends and family. They encourage individuals experiencing such situations to seek help and utilize available resources.
For those affected by intimate partner violence, support is available through Victim Services of Durham Region and other community resources. Anonymous tips can be submitted to Durham Regional Crime Stoppers.
