Oshawa Resident Charged with Multiple Offences After Altercation
On October 29, 2024, at approximately 10:45 p.m., police responded to a call regarding an armed individual at a residence near Johnson Avenue and Cubert Street in Oshawa. A male suspect was reportedly involved in a physical altercation with two females and another male, during which he allegedly threatened them with a large knife. The victims left the residence, while the suspect stayed inside. Upon arrival, officers were informed that firearms might be present in the residence. The suspect was eventually persuaded to surrender and was taken into custody.
The following day, a search warrant was executed at the residence by the Central East Division Criminal Investigations Branch, with assistance from the Tactical Support Unit. The search resulted in the seizure of several large knives, a rifle, a revolver, a replica shotgun, and ammunition.
The suspect, identified as Ben Vignjevic, 18, from Oshawa, faces multiple charges, including two counts of assault with a weapon, two counts of assault, assaulting a peace officer, mischief under $5000, two counts of uttering death threats, possession of a weapon for committing an offence, and possession of a firearm without a license. He was held for a bail hearing.
