Oshawa Man Charged with Attempted Murder Following Stabbings

A male has been charged with attempted murder following two stabbings and an assault that occurred in Oshawa on August 29, 2024.

According to the Durham Regional Police Service, the first incident took place at approximately 2:05 a.m. in the vicinity of John Street West and Nassau Street. A male suspect allegedly assaulted a female and then stabbed another male before fleeing the scene. The female victim sustained minor injuries, while the male victim was found with serious stab wounds and transported to a trauma center in Toronto in life-threatening condition.

Later that day, at around 2:15 p.m., police responded to a second armed person call in the same area. The same suspect reportedly stabbed another male and fled again. This victim was also located with serious stab wounds but was taken to a trauma center in serious but non-life-threatening condition.

The suspect, identified as 22-year-old Lucais Joseph Dayton, has been charged with multiple offenses, including attempted murder, aggravated assault (x2), assault, assault with a weapon (x4), carrying a concealed weapon (x2), possession of a weapon for committing an offense (x4), and failing to comply with a probation order (x11). Dayton was held for a bail hearing following his arrest.

The police are seeking any additional information related to these incidents, particularly from individuals who may have cell phone, dashcam, or surveillance footage from the area during the time of the stabbings.
