Ontario Releases Latest EQAO Assessment Results

The Ontario Minister of Education, Jill Dunlop, released a statement on the latest results from the Education Quality and Accountability Office (EQAO) assessments. The statement highlights that student learning in Ontario is stabilizing after disruptions caused by the pandemic. The government has allocated over $165 million to support literacy and math education. Additionally, the province has added nearly 3,500 educational assistants and almost 3,000 teachers since 2017-18. The statement also notes the implementation of a ban on cell phones in classrooms this school year, which the government claims has led to increased student focus. The language curriculum was updated in 2023 for the first time since 2006, emphasizing basic literacy skills, critical thinking, and digital media literacy. The EQAO results indicate improvements in math scores across all age groups over the past two years, with specific gains noted in certain school boards.
