Ontario Proposes Legislation to Reform Healthcare System

The Ontario government has introduced the More Convenient Care Act, 2024, aiming to enhance the province's healthcare system. The proposed legislation seeks to improve governance, transparency, and service delivery in healthcare. Key initiatives include the voluntary merger of nine Local Public Health Agencies into four new entities to address capacity and performance issues. The government also plans to modernize the provincial electronic health record system and expand the role of nurse practitioners in mandatory blood testing. Additionally, the act proposes creating a transparency framework for staffing agencies and enhancing hospital governance practices. These measures are part of Ontario's broader strategy to build healthier communities and strengthen the healthcare workforce.
