Ontario Invests $325 Million in Water Infrastructure for Housing

The Ontario government has announced a $325 million investment in water infrastructure projects across the province. This funding is intended to support the construction of up to 107,000 new homes. The initiative is facilitated through the Housing-Enabling Water Systems Fund (HEWSF), which provides financial assistance to municipalities for building, repairing, rehabilitating, and expanding essential water infrastructure, including drinking water, wastewater, and stormwater systems.

The Ontario government states that this investment is designed to meet the increasing demand for housing by ensuring that necessary water infrastructure is available to support new developments. The HEWSF aims to help municipalities address these infrastructure needs effectively.

Kinga Surma, Minister of Infrastructure, noted that the increase in funding is in response to the high demand from municipalities seeking support for their infrastructure projects. This fund is intended to ensure that new homes can be connected to essential water services efficiently.
