Ontario Initiates 'Operation Deterrence' for Border Security

The Ontario government has announced the launch of "Operation Deterrence," a new initiative aimed at enhancing security along the Ontario-U.S. border. This operation is designed to address criminal activities affecting communities on both sides of the border.

The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) are leading the operation, deploying an emergency response team of 200 officers. These officers, along with frontline and specialty officers, have been actively involved in border security efforts since December 6, 2024. The OPP reports that they have conducted over 6,000 hours of patrols using various modes of transportation, including aircraft and boats.
