Ontario Expands Alcohol Sales to Grocery and Big-Box Stores

The Ontario government has announced that as of October 31, 2024, all licensed grocery and big-box stores in the province are now permitted to sell alcoholic beverages, including beer, wine, cider, and ready-to-drink options. This marks the final phase of a planned expansion that began earlier this year.

The phased rollout started in July 2024, allowing up to 450 grocery stores to sell ready-to-drink beverages. By September 5, 2024, eligible convenience stores were also permitted to sell alcoholic beverages. The final phase now includes all eligible grocery and big-box stores.
