Ontario Announces New Energy Efficiency Programs Starting 2025

The Ontario government has announced the introduction of new energy efficiency programs, including the Home Renovation Savings Program, which will commence on January 28, 2025. These programs are part of a $10.9 billion, 12-year initiative aimed at improving energy efficiency across the province.

The Home Renovation Savings Program offers rebates of up to 30% for homeowners undertaking energy efficiency renovations, such as insulation upgrades and window replacements. The program is set to expand later in 2025 to include rebates for energy-efficient appliances.

This initiative is supported by the Affordable Energy Act, effective December 4, 2024, which extends eligibility to homeowners using propane and oil for heating.

According to the Ontario government, these programs are expected to reduce peak electricity demand by 3,000 megawatts by 2036 and contribute to an estimated $23.1 billion in electricity system benefits.

Stephen Lecce, Minister of Energy and Electrification, highlighted the financial benefits of the program for Ontario residents. Additionally, Mike Holmes, known for his advocacy in energy efficiency, has expressed support for these initiatives.

These programs are part of Ontario's strategy to enhance energy efficiency and reduce costs for residents, aligning with legislative efforts to make energy-saving measures more accessible.
