Ontario and Canada Launch Agri-Food Workforce Initiative
The governments of Canada and Ontario have announced the creation of the Labour Force Management Strategies Initiative, aimed at attracting and retaining workers in Ontario's agri-food sector. This initiative is supported by a $4 million fund from the Sustainable Canadian Agricultural Partnership.
The initiative will provide funding for job training, recruitment marketing campaigns, and new worker supports such as ridesharing programs and language training. It will also aid in planning on-site amenities and recreational facilities for workers.
Eligible producers and processors can receive up to 50% cost-share support per project, with a maximum of $40,000. Industry organizations and business collaborations can receive up to 50% of eligible costs, capped at $100,000 per project. Applications will be accepted from October 22, 2024, until September 2, 2025.
This initiative is part of broader efforts to address labour challenges in the agri-food sector and aligns with the Grow Ontario Strategy, which aims to increase agri-food sector employment by 10% by 2032.
