Ontario Allocates $93,000 for Dementia Care in Durham Region
The Ontario government has allocated $93,000 to improve dementia care services in the Region of Durham. This funding is directed to the Alzheimer Society of Durham Region, which will implement the First Link® Care Navigation program. This initiative is designed to support individuals living with dementia and their families by providing access to necessary care, education, and resources.
This funding is part of a larger $6.9 million investment by the Ontario government over two years, aimed at supporting individuals diagnosed with dementia across the province. The initiative will enable the hiring of 36 full-time equivalent staff members, reduce wait times for existing patients, and provide support for approximately 7,000 new clients in Ontario. Clients will have access to coordinators who will assist with care planning, coordination, and referrals to community services.
