The Ontario government has announced a financial commitment of over $92 million to support research initiatives across the province. This funding is allocated through the Ontario Research Fund and aims to assist universities, colleges, research institutes, and hospitals in Ontario.

The funding will be distributed to more than 200 projects, which include the development and renovation of research facilities and the acquisition of advanced equipment. Some notable projects receiving funding include:

  • Lawson Health Research Institute will receive nearly $2 million to develop PET imaging software for early detection of brain degeneration and to enhance cancer treatment software.
  • Queen’s University is allocated $152,000 to advance electric vehicle battery charging stations.
  • Mohawk College will receive $1 million to innovate 3D printing systems, aiding local manufacturers.
  • Brock University is granted $2 million to establish a Clean Plant Program for grape and wine production.
  • The University of Toronto is awarded nearly $2 million for research on hydrogen as a clean fuel for aircraft.

The Ontario Research Fund supports projects selected through a competitive peer review process. Since 2018, Ontario has invested $831 million in research, leveraging over $1.34 billion from federal and third-party contributions. This initiative is part of the province's broader strategy to foster innovation and economic growth through research and development.
