Ontario Allocates $9 Million for Long-Term Care Skin and Wound Services

The Ontario government has announced a $9 million investment to enhance skin and wound care services in long-term care homes. This funding aims to improve healthcare for residents by reducing the need for emergency department visits and hospital stays.

The initiative includes training for up to 400 staff members in long-term care homes, equipping them with skills to better manage skin and wound conditions. Additionally, the investment will support the purchase of diagnostic equipment to aid in treatment.

Funding allocations include $329,400 to Nurses Specialized in Wound, Ostomy and Continence Canada for the Skin and Wound Assessment and Treatment (SWAN) program, and $671,900 to Wounds Canada for the Wound Care Champion Program and the Skin Health Program.

These programs are designed to address the high incidence of skin and wound issues among long-term care residents, aiming to provide effective treatment within the home setting.
