Ontario Allocates $740,000 for Accessibility Projects

The Ontario government is allocating up to $740,000 to enhance accessibility and support individuals of all ages and abilities across the province. The funding, provided through the Inclusive Community Grants Program, will be distributed among 20 projects aimed at improving community life for older Ontarians and people with disabilities.

The Inclusive Community Grants Program offers up to $60,000 per project to ensure that local governments and community organizations consider the needs of Ontarians of all ages and abilities in their community planning and development efforts. Since its inception in 2020, the program has allocated over $5 million to support 107 projects across Ontario.

For the 2024-25 funding cycle, notable projects include:

  • Creating an accessible outdoor library space at the Newcastle Library of the Clarington Library, Museums & Archives in Bowmanville, which will feature a sensory garden and programming space for people of all ages and abilities.
  • Making accessibility upgrades to the Ed Newland Pool facility in Cambridge, including new parking spaces, paths, and ramps around and into the building.
  • Installing accessible outdoor seating and sun coverings and developing activities at Algoma Park in Espanola.
  • Creating an accessible outdoor space with shade, seating, gardens, and mobility aid charging stations in Port Hope.
