Ontario Allocates $11 Billion in Support for Workers and Businesses
The Ontario government has announced a relief package valued at approximately $11 billion, aimed at supporting workers and businesses amid current economic uncertainty. This package addresses economic impacts stemming from factors such as U.S. tariffs.
The relief includes a deferment of certain provincially administered taxes for six months and a $2 billion rebate for employers from the Workplace Safety and Insurance Board (WSIB). This rebate targets businesses that maintain a safe working environment. Premier Doug Ford stated that these measures are in response to economic challenges faced due to international trade conditions.
Finance Minister Peter Bethlenfalvy highlighted that the province is proactively protecting its economic stakeholders. Jeffrey Lang, WSIB's President and CEO, mentioned that improved financial management has allowed surplus funds to be directed back to businesses, providing them with timely support during these challenges.
