Ontario Advances Critical Mineral Development in Fortress Am-Can Initiative

Ontario is advancing its efforts to develop critical mineral resources as part of the Fortress Am-Can initiative, which aims to strengthen supply chains between Canada and the United States. This initiative focuses on the Ring of Fire region, known for its rich deposits of critical minerals.

The Ontario government has proposed the establishment of an Am-Can Critical Mineral Security Alliance. This alliance is intended to enhance the processing capacity and security of critical mineral supply chains shared by the two countries.

Premier Doug Ford emphasized the strategic importance of these minerals for new technologies and geopolitical security, stating, "Critical minerals are essential for the technologies of today and tomorrow."

George Pirie, Ontario's Minister of Mines, highlighted the province's resources as vital to the success of the Fortress Am-Can initiative, noting, "Ontario's mineral wealth is key to this initiative."

The plan includes measures to expedite regulatory approvals for critical mineral projects, aiming to streamline processes and reduce delays. Additionally, Ontario is focusing on engaging with First Nations communities as part of this initiative, recognizing the importance of their involvement in resource development projects.
