Ongoing Beach Monitoring Program

The Durham Region Health Department conducts an ongoing beach monitoring program throughout the summer to ensure public safety at local beaches. This program includes bacteriological water tests to assess whether the water is safe for swimming. Water samples are tested at the Public Health Ontario Laboratory located in Peterborough. Results from these tests are communicated to the media by Friday of each week, allowing for timely public notification regarding beach postings. For real-time updates, test results can be accessed through the Health Department's online disclosure portal, Check&Go! Durham, which provides weekly inspection results for local beaches.
