Newtonville Road Pilot Project: Recycled Materials and Environmental Testing

The Newtonville Road Pilot Project, which utilized recycled materials in its reconstruction, was recognized with the Project of the Year Award in Transportation by the Ontario Public Works Association. This initiative reflects Clarington's support for the reuse of materials that cannot be recycled. During the General Government Committee meeting on May 29, 2023, Councillor Zwart moved a resolution to request the Regional Municipality of Durham to hire a third-party consultant to conduct soil and water testing. This testing aims to assess whether the use of recycled materials in the project has had any adverse effects on the environment and human health. The resolution was carried with a recorded vote of 6 to 0.
