New Children's Treatment Centre Opens in Ajax
The Ontario government has announced the opening of a new children's treatment centre in Ajax, named the Grandview Kids Jerry Coughlan Building. This facility is designed to serve over 6,000 children and youth with physical, communication, and developmental needs in the Durham region. The project was supported by a provincial investment exceeding $85.3 million, alongside contributions from the federal government, the Town of Ajax, and community fundraising efforts by Grandview Kids.
The new centre consolidates the existing main site in Oshawa and several satellite locations, although some satellite sites will remain operational to minimize travel for clients. The facility will offer a range of services, including occupational therapy, physiotherapy, speech-language pathology, and services under the Ontario Autism Program. It will also house the Grandview School, where educators and therapists collaborate to address the unique needs of children.
The centre's opening is part of broader efforts by the Ontario government to modernize children's treatment facilities across the province, with similar projects underway in other regions such as Brantford and Ottawa. The Grandview Kids centre aims to provide a centralized location for specialized paediatric care, enhancing service delivery for families in the area.
