Mobile ID and Benefits Access Hubs Available for Residents
Mobile ID and Benefits Access Hubs will be available across Durham Region this fall to assist residents in accessing various benefits.
The Hubs will provide eligible residents with the following services:
- Information on benefits they may qualify for.
- Assistance in obtaining or replacing government identification, such as Social Insurance Numbers (SINs) and Birth Certificates. To obtain a SIN, residents must present a primary ID and a second form of government ID. For a Birth Certificate, knowledge of the birth registration details is required.
- The opportunity to open a Registered Education Savings Plan (RESP) and apply for the Canada Learning Bond benefit. Eligible families can receive up to $2,000 per child for post-secondary education savings. To qualify, the child must be born in 2004 or later and from a family with modest income. Parents or caregivers must bring their SIN and the child's SIN to open an RESP.
- Enrollment in the Canadian Dental Care Plan (CDCP), which is available to seniors aged 65 and older, children under 18, and adults with a Disability Tax Credit certificate. Eligible individuals must bring their SIN and a letter from the Government of Canada to the Hub.
