Mark Carney Appointed Chair of Economic Growth Task Force
The Liberal Party of Canada has announced that Mark Carney will chair the Leader’s Task Force on Economic Growth. This task force aims to develop ideas for both near- and long-term economic growth and productivity in Canada.
Mark Carney, a Canadian economist with extensive experience in public service and the private sector, will lead the task force. The task force will focus on building upon the Liberal government's previous efforts to strengthen the middle class and reduce costs for families.
The task force will engage with Canadians through meetings and events to gather ideas from various sectors, including business, labor, and Indigenous economic leadership. The recommendations generated will be compiled into a report for the Liberal Party’s Platform Committee as preparations for the next election continue.
Carney has held significant positions, including former Governor of the Bank of Canada and the Bank of England, and currently serves as the United Nations Special Envoy for Climate Change and Finance. He has also authored a book titled "Values: Building a better world for all."
The announcement comes at a time when Canada is experiencing a decrease in inflation rates, with the government emphasizing the need to continue efforts to lower costs and create new opportunities for families. The task force's work will contribute to shaping the Liberal Party's economic vision moving forward.
