Man Arrested for Bank Fraud in Pickering

A man was arrested in Pickering after attempting to open a bank account with a forged passport. On August 13, 2024, at approximately 10:50 a.m., police responded to a fraud in progress at the Scotiabank on 2460 Brock Road. The suspect used a Sri Lankan passport, which was found to be fraudulent. Police took the man into custody without incident.

Kapilarusu Karunaneedi, 31, from Whitchurch-Stouffville, faces multiple charges including possessing a forged passport, uttering forged documents, personation to gain advantage, possessing identity information for a fraudulent offense, and attempting fraud under $5000. He was released on an undertaking.
