Linda A. Shin Appointed as Judge of the Superior Court of Justice in Ontario
On October 15, 2024, the Honourable Arif Virani, Minister of Justice and Attorney General of Canada, announced the appointment of Linda A. Shin as a Judge of the Superior Court of Justice of Ontario, located in Toronto. This appointment fills the vacancy left by Justice B.A. Allen, who became a supernumerary judge on November 4, 2022.
Linda A. Shin previously served as General Counsel at the Ministry of the Attorney General of Ontario, Criminal Law Division, in Toronto. Her legal career includes roles such as Chief Counsel to the Deputy Attorney General for Ontario and Assistant Crown Attorney in the Toronto Crown Attorney’s Office. She has also worked as a civil litigation associate at McCarthy Tétrault.
Justice Shin holds a Bachelor of Arts (Honours) from Queen’s University and a Bachelor of Laws from the University of Toronto. She was admitted to the Bar of Ontario in 2000. Her contributions to the legal community include mentoring law students and serving as an instructor for the trial advocacy course at the University of Toronto’s Faculty of Law.
The appointment is part of the judicial application process established in 2016, which aims to ensure transparency, merit, and diversity in judicial appointments across Canada.
