LEAF Backyard Tree Planting Program 2022 in Clarington

The Municipality of Clarington has entered into a partnership with the Local Enhanced Appreciation of Forests (LEAF) to implement the Backyard Tree Planting Program for 2022. This initiative aims to enhance urban greenery by encouraging residents to plant trees on their private properties. The program will offer two models for participation: a full-service option where LEAF handles the planting, and a do-it-yourself model for those who prefer to plant the trees themselves. The program is designed to address a noted tree planting void in Clarington and to promote environmental benefits associated with increased tree cover. The total funding for the program is set at $15,000, which will be drawn from the existing Public Works Department tree planting budget. The Council has also directed staff to review the program's performance in 2022 to determine its continuation in 2023.
