Launch of Virtual Home Energy Assessment Tool in Durham Region

The Virtual Home Energy Assessment Tool (vHEAT) was launched today in Durham Region as part of the Durham Greener Homes Program. This tool utilizes artificial intelligence (AI) to generate a digital energy score, allowing homeowners to compare their energy consumption with similar homes. Additionally, vHEAT provides a customized 'retrofit road map' to assist homeowners in reducing energy use, which can lead to cost savings.

Home energy expenses are a significant monthly cost for residents in Durham Region and account for over 30% of the region's annual greenhouse gas emissions. The vHEAT aims to initiate homeowners on their retrofit journey and connect them with resources such as Durham Greener Homes Energy Coaching for further support.

Users can create an account on the vHEAT platform, input their home address, and provide details about any previous upgrades. The tool will then offer personalized renovation recommendations to enhance energy efficiency.

The Durham Greener Homes Program, which includes vHEAT, is a collaborative effort involving Windfall Ecology Centre, local municipalities, and energy utilities. It is part of the Region's response to the climate emergency declaration by the Durham Regional Council. Funding for the program comes from a $3.4 million investment through the Community Efficiency Financing initiative, managed by the Federation of Canadian Municipalities and supported by the Government of Canada.

For more information about home energy upgrades and available incentives, residents can visit the Durham Greener Homes website.
